Electrical Service Upgrade & Meter Base in McLoughlin, Oregon City

McLoughlin, Oregon City

Electrical Service Upgrade & Meter Base

October 2026

This McLoughlin home in Oregon City is about 100 years old, and its electrical service had fallen behind what the family needed. We upgraded the service with a new mast and meter base on the outside wall, and the work was inspected. Older houses like this take patience, and we bring them up to date without tearing them apart.

★★★★★Terrie B.

“In a time of lackluster customer service, Igor is a refreshing reminder that great service is still possible. A true professional, he responds quickly to calls, shows up on time, is polite and personable, and completes his work cleanly, quietly, on time and on budget. His prices are very reasonable, especially when you consider the quality of and speed of his work. Our house is 100 years old and it has scared off some electricians as we've tried to gently drag it into the 21st century. Not Igor. He has the knowledge and skill to tackle the complexities presented. We are completely happy with the service and the work he provided. I've already recommended him to several friends and I highly recommend him to you”

Is Your Oregon City House in the Historic Core or Up the Hill?

Two cities in one — about 1,550 pre-1940 homes in the historic core, and 1990s–2000s neighborhoods on the hill that need capacity.

Oregon City was Oregon's first incorporated city, and its oldest houses show it. Of 14,651 homes, 1,552, or 10.6%, were built before 1940, the knob-and-tube years. A house that old may still have a fuse box, or original wiring behind a newer panel. The 1970s added 2,802 more, and those built through 1973 fall in the aluminum branch wiring years.

The newer city sits on the hill. More than half the homes, 53.9%, were built in 1990 or later, split almost evenly between the 1990s and the 2000s. The wiring is modern; the job is room on the panel for an EV charger, a heat pump or a hot tub. I-205 runs along the north edge.

Pre-1940 houses: fuse boxes and knob-and-tube possible → Knob-and-Tube Replacement
1970–73 houses fall in the aluminum wiring years → Aluminum Wiring Repair
7,891 homes since 1990: capacity work, not rewiring → Electrical Panel Replacement & Upgrade

FAQ — Local Homes

Could a house in the historic core still have a fuse box?
It could. Houses there predate 1940, when fuse boxes were standard. Even where a breaker panel was fitted later, the wiring behind it can be original. We check both.
We're insulating the attic of a pre-1940 house. Does knob-and-tube matter?
Yes. Knob-and-tube has no ground wire, its insulation ages, and it is not rated to be buried in insulation. Live runs in the attic get traced and replaced first.
Our 1990s house is on the hill. Can the panel take an EV charger?
It may. A 1990s panel already feeding a heat pump and a hot tub may have no room left. We check the service size and free spaces first, then pull the permit.
What are the signs an older house needs new wiring?
Two-prong outlets, a fuse box, cloth-covered wire in the basement or attic, flickering lights or breakers that trip often. In Oregon City's historic core, where the oldest houses stand, we also look for knob-and-tube behind a newer panel.
Our house was built in the 2000s. What does it usually need?
Space for what you're adding. One in five homes here went up in the 2000s, with modern wiring but panels sized before EV chargers and heat pumps were common. We check the spaces and the load, then tell you whether a circuit fits or a subpanel is the better route.
Will insurance cover a fire caused by uninspected electrical work?
Oregon City's own building page warns that if a home has unpermitted electrical work and has a house fire, it is very unlikely the insurer will cover the repairs. Inspected work avoids that question.
