Electrical Panel Replacement & Upgrade in Lincoln, Vancouver

Electrical Panel Replacement & Upgrade

October 2026

A homeowner in Vancouver's Lincoln neighborhood called us after hours with an electrical emergency. We came out that evening, stayed late to make things safe, then came back on a holiday weekend to replace the whole panel. Emergency calls like this get a safe fix first and the permanent repair as soon as we can.

★★★★★Beau J.

“Igor really helped me out in an emergency situation. He came by after hours to diagnose the issue. Stayed late to patch things together and make them safe. Then worked me in his schedule on a holiday weekend to replace the whole panel. I am very grateful for his quick response and VERY impressed with the quality of his work.”

What Changes When the House Is in Vancouver, Not Portland?

A 1990s city with a 1970s layer and a pre-1940 core near downtown — and a different utility from Portland.

Two things change at the Columbia: the power company and the houses. The utility here is Clark Public Utilities. I-5 and I-205 both cross the river into Vancouver, SR 14 runs along the Columbia, and we cross those bridges for jobs here.

On a service upgrade, CPU pulls the meter before the work goes in and sets it again only after the job passes inspection. The house is without power for the working part, and the last visit runs on the utility's timing. We book the disconnect and reconnect for you.

Only 4.9% of homes citywide predate 1940, but the five tracts within 2.5 km of downtown are 34% pre-1940 and hold 71% of the city's pre-1940 homes. In older houses downtown and in Hough and Arnada, knob-and-tube is a real question.

3,560 homes predate 1940, most of them near downtown → Knob-and-Tube Replacement
13,705 homes from the 1970s, including the aluminum years → Aluminum Wiring Repair
Service upgrade: power off until CPU sets the meter → Electrical Panel Replacement & Upgrade

FAQ — Local Homes

Do you actually come out to Vancouver, or is the bridge an excuse?
Yes, we come out. We take I-5 or I-205 over the river for jobs across the city, from the older houses near downtown to the 1990s neighborhoods. Call 503-984-1097 and tell us what's going on.
Is knob-and-tube likely in an older house near downtown?
More likely there than anywhere else in the city, because the tracts near downtown hold 71% of its pre-1940 homes. We check before we quote.
Can old knob-and-tube just be patched?
Sometimes, for one damaged spot, but a repair leaves the rest of the old circuit in place, still with no ground wire. In the older houses near downtown we usually recommend replacing the live runs; we trace them first and quote in writing.
Does Clark Public Utilities pay toward a new panel?
Rebate programs change, so ask us what is current when you get your written estimate. CPU has heat-pump rebates; we run the circuit the heat pump needs.
Does a 1970s house in Vancouver have aluminum wiring?
It might. Nearly one home in five here dates from the 1970s, and the 1965–73 slice falls in the aluminum branch wiring years. Being built then does not mean it was wired that way; we check at the panel and a few outlets before we quote.
Does the city or Washington L&I inspect our electrical work?
Inside city limits, the City of Vancouver; outside them, Washington L&I. Clark Public Utilities says all electrical work on customer equipment needs an inspection from the agency with jurisdiction, and we schedule it.
