What Our Customers Say

Professional and Informative! Igor installed a E.V. 240V plug outside my home and did a clean and professional install. Compared to other bids I received, Igor's was fair and after he was done it was definitely worth every penny. He pointed out things that I should be aware of and informed me of options to take care of it. He let me know about the importance of surge protector and installed one for me on the fly. I am definitely going to use Pwr Pro Electric for future electrical projects.

What EV Charger Installation Involves in Portland

Level 2 EV charger installation on a dedicated 240-volt circuit — the panel checked first, the charger you choose, and the job done the same day, across Portland, Lake Oswego, Hillsboro, and surrounding communities.

A Level 2 charger runs on its own dedicated 240-volt circuit from the panel, and nothing else shares it. That circuit is the heart of every EV charger installation: the right wire size for the charger, a breaker to match, and a route from the panel to the spot where you park. Once it is in, the car tops back up overnight after a normal day's driving.

The circuit ends one of two ways. A hardwired charger connects straight to the wiring, is rated for outdoor use, and is the cleaner choice on an outside wall or in a carport. A plug-in charger uses a NEMA 14-50 receptacle on the same kind of circuit, so you can unplug it and take it with you when you move, but the receptacle has to be rated for a load that runs for hours.

Because every EV charger installation adds a new circuit, we pull the permit and arrange the inspection. When the panel or service has to grow first, that part needs your power company — PGE or Pacific Power, by address — to cut and restore the power, and we set that up with them. Gresham is all PGE and runs its own inspections; EV charger installation in Gresham covers the differences.

Will Your Panel Handle EV Charger Installation?

A charger draws a large load for hours at a time, usually overnight, when the heat and water heater may be running too. So before we quote an EV charger installation, we add up the loads: heat, water heater, range, dryer, air conditioning, anything else on the list, and then the charger. The total tells us whether it fits.

Age alone does not rule a house out: a 60-amp house can often still take a charger, depending on what else it runs. Homes on 100 or 200 amps — 100 is the usual minimum today — have more headroom. When the numbers do not fit, we say so, and the next step is a panel upgrade or a service upgrade before the charger goes in.

We Install the Charger You Choose

Buy the charger yourself or ask us what suits the circuit; either way, we install the charger you choose, whatever the brand. Send us the model before the visit and we size the circuit and breaker to it. If you have not picked one yet, we tell you what the panel can supply, so you are not paying for more charger than the house can feed. Driving a Tesla? It has its own page, Tesla Charger Installation, linked below.

Garage, Carport or Driveway: Where the Charger Goes

The shortest run is a garage wall close to the panel, and that is often where the charger ends up. A carport or an outside wall works too, with a unit rated for outdoor use. A detached garage or a spot at the end of the driveway takes a longer route — through the crawlspace, along the house in conduit, or underground — and the written estimate shows the route we plan and why.

Wherever it goes, the unit hangs where its cord reaches your charge port with slack to spare, clear of the door swing and the path you walk, so nobody catches a foot on it in the dark. If a second EV is likely, say so at the walk-through; it changes where the charger should sit and what the panel has to hold.

How Long an EV Charger Installation Takes

A walk-through comes first, often the same day you call, and then a written estimate. After you approve it, the EV charger installation is finished the same day: circuit run, charger mounted, breaker labeled, and a test charge with your car before we leave.

The exception is a house that needs more power first. Then the panel or service work comes before the charger: one to two days for a panel upgrade, 8 to 10 hours for a full service upgrade, or 6 to 10 hours for a subpanel when the panel only needs space. The charger goes in once there is room for it.

What Affects the Cost of a Home EV Charger in Portland

Every charger gets its own circuit, and these are the things that make that circuit a short job or a longer one.

  • Distance to where you park

A garage wall near the panel is the shortest run; a detached garage or the end of the driveway is the longest.

  • The route the wire takes

Through a crawlspace, along the house in conduit, or underground: each route takes a different amount of material and labor.

  • Hardwired or plug-in

A hardwired unit and a NEMA 14-50 receptacle are wired differently, and the receptacle must be rated for hours-long loads.

  • Charger output

A higher-output unit needs a larger breaker and heavier wire, and the panel has to be able to supply it.

  • Panel and service capacity

If the load math does not fit, panel or service work comes before the charger goes on the wall.

  • A second car

Planning for two EVs can mean a second circuit, or a pair of chargers made to share one.

  • Inspection

Every new charger circuit is inspected; we pull the permit and set up the visit.

Every job gets a written estimate before any work starts.

EV Charger Installation Questions

Is a home EV charger worth it?
For most EV drivers, yes. A Level 2 charger on its own 240-volt circuit refills the battery overnight, where a standard outlet often can't keep up with daily driving. We check the panel first, so you know what it takes before you buy anything.
I already bought a charger. Can you install it?
Yes. We install the charger you choose, whatever the brand. Send us the model and a photo of the panel before the visit, and we size the circuit to the charger you have.
We have two EVs. Do we need two chargers?
Not always. Two cars can take turns on one Level 2 charger. If you want both charging at once, that means a second circuit or a pair of chargers made to share one, and the load math tells us which the panel can supply.
Do you install chargers in Gresham and Vancouver, WA?
Yes. Gresham is one of the places we work most, and we cross the river to Vancouver, where Clark Public Utilities supplies the power. Each city has its own charger page, linked below.
How do you run the charger wire through a finished house?
Usually without opening walls. We route it through the basement, crawlspace, attic or garage, or in conduit outside. Where a finished wall is in the way, we plan the smallest opening and walk the route with you first.
Can you put a charger in a condo or shared garage?
Often, yes. The circuit usually comes from your own unit's panel, and the association typically has to approve the route and the charger spot. We look at the panel and the path to your parking space, then put it in a written estimate for the board.
